About Me

A third generation Unitarian Universalist, I have served UU congregations in Northern California, New York, Ohio, Wisconsin and, most recently, Ottawa, Canada’s capital city.

Prior to answering the call to ministry, I worked with both the Minnesota Literacy Council in St. Paul, Minnesota and the Twin Cities’ Southeast Asian refugee and immigrant communities. I’m a graduate of Macalester College in St. Paul and Starr King School for the ministry in Berkeley, California.

In 2003, I spent a sabbatical month in South Africa, a highlight of which was preaching at an African Methodist Episcopal church in Soweto. I’ve also made three pilgrimages to the Unitarian congregations of Transylvania, and served for six years on the UU Partner Church Council Board. These international experiences have shaped my understanding of myself, and all of us, as global citizens.

My wife, Ann De Leon, works in the field of organ donation and has served in training, family support, and hospital development roles. She has two children from her first marriage, both now adults. Ryan is podiatric (foot doctor) surgeon in Dayton, OH and CJ works as an auto mechanic outside Raleigh, North Carolina.

Ann and I are also proud dog people. When time and commitments allow, I enjoy photography, hiking, travel, reading the novels of Louise Penny and listening to anything Rhiannon Giddens lends her voice to.

Are you a congregation growing its collective voice in terms of social justice?

Are you excited about what you are already and what you can become?

I want to help foster religious communities in which young and old learn from, support, and inspire one another, and I like to serve congregations who like to dance!
